Protecting Exported Data

The GoldSTAR data export module is a powerful tool for sending data from your GoldSTAR system to another system on a regular basis. Able to provide data in a multitude of formats, the export module can be configured to send customer, ticket or any other GoldSTAR data in an encrypted file to a location on your network or (with suitable permission) directly to a third party's secure server.  All this can be made to happen automatically, on a schedule to suit the occasion - for example, data can be exported weekly, daily or hourly.

We will always use the most secure method available to transfer data, whether within your network or externally.  Now, we've taken that security even further by introducing key-based authentication for the export module.  With the latest version of the export module, we can accept keys from a designated third party, encrypt them and store them in the GoldSTAR database. This method adds complexity even above the SFTP or FTPS protocol, so you can be doubly sure that the data is only accessible by the party you want to share it with.  If you have multiple exports, we can accommodate this method on one, many or all of your exports, as long as the receiving system can also support it.

In addition, we have introduced a new process to ask you to verify at least annually that the data should still be passed to the third party in question. What if you have ceased to use them for this business, but forgotten that there is a regular export of data ? Maybe the person who originally commissioned the export has moved on, and you're not sure what the data is being used for ? To be sure that data is only shared with those people and organisations who really need to see it, we will be asking you to confirm that your data exports are all still needed. This won't take long : we will contact you via email to ask the question. We'll even let you know what exports are set up on your system, when they run, and where they go. All you have to do is give us a 'yes' or a 'no' on each, and we'll take care of the rest. However, if you don't respond or you can't confirm, we will disable the export after a grace period, so that by default no data is sent anywhere without your express permission.
